The tiny Japanese community of Jerusalem grew by seven this summer when a group from Japan came to study Hebrew at the Rothberg School for Overseas Students at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. It is believed that this was the first time a group from Japan came to the university for the specific purpose of studying Hebrew. The oldest student was. 80 years old and the youngest was 27. They all said it was difficult to learn Hebrew, but that they enjoyed themselves. One woman had already studied some Hebrew in Japan, so it was not as difficult for her.
