Police have no clues as to the arsonists who last week destroyed a beloved artifact on public display here for nearly 20 years – the black 19th-century carriage which the famous Anglo-Jewish statesman and philanthropist, Sir Moses Montefiore, used during his frequent visits to the Holy Land more than 100 years ago. There is speculation, but no proof, that the arson was the work of Palestinian nationalists related to the recent unrest in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
