The Federation of Polish Jews of the United States is urging that Jewish participation in Polish ceremonies commemorating the 50th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II be canceled because of the failure by the Catholic Church and the Polish government to remove the Carmelite convent from the site of the former Auschwitz death camp.

Moreover, the organization is calling upon Jews to suspend trips to Poland until the nuns leave the convent.

Ceremonies recalling the Sept. 1, 1939, invasion of Poland by the Nazis are scheduled to take place in there Aug. 30 to Sept. 4.
