A majority of Israelis do not expect Iraq to attack Israel with chemical weapons, and they oppose an Israeli attack on Iraq, according to a poll published last Friday in the weekly Mabat.
The survey, conducted by the Modi’in Ezrahi research institute, found that 55 percent of Israelis do not believe Saddam Hussein will follow through on threats to attack Israel with chemical weapons. Twenty percent think he will.
More than 70 percent of respondents oppose an Israeli attack on Iraq if the United States does not act accordingly.
Fifty-five percent oppose Israel’s promise to the United States not to settle Soviet Jewish immigrants in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
