Israel is to carry out joint scientific research with China and with India, countries that established diplomatic relations with the Jewish state a year ago.
Jerusalem will cooperate with Beijing in space research and its implementation for peaceful purposes, according to Dr. Gershon Metzger, director-general of the Ministry of Science and Development, who was in China and India last month on official visits.
Teams of Chinese and Indian scientists are due in Israel in February and April respectively.
The two countries forged first-time-ever ties with Israel in January 1992.
At the economic level, the Israeli government has approved an agreement equalizing tariffs and improving terms of trade with China. Trade between the two countries last year was estimated at $40 million.
