Two Hungarian skinheads suspected of setting fire to Torah scrolls were arrested last week.

Police said they planned to charge the two suspects – both from the eastern Hungarian city of Debrecen – in connection with the burning of a total of 16 Torah scrolls. Earlier, it was believed that some of the scrolls had been stolen.

According to police, two Torahs were burned in the city’s only synagogue on Jan. 6, the birthday of former Hungarian leader Ferenc Szalasi, a Nazi sympathizer.
