Israel has approved both a trade agreement with the European Union as well as an agreement that would allow Israeli companies to bid for rights on research and development projects involving E.U. countries.
The vote last week brought to an end internal tensions between Israel’s Foreign Ministry, which had long been pushing for approval of the pact, and the trade and agricultural industries, which felt the accord shortchanged Israel.
The trade agreement would give Israel special status and the opportunity to take part in special development projects.
