In addition to math, biology, history and grammar, Israeli high school students can now expect to spend more time studying Diaspora Jewry.

While the topic is already included in the high school history curriculum, the Education Ministry said this week that teachers tend to devote scant attention to the topic.

In an effort to encourage teachers to address the subject in greater detail, the Education Ministry has published a workbook, “Diaspora Jewry in the 20th Century,” which has lesson plans calling for approximately 25-30 hours of class time.
