JERUSALEM, Oct. 19 (JTA) – Israeli warplanes attacked
Hezbollah targets in the southern Lebanon security zone Sunday after
an Israeli solider was killed a day earlier by Hezbollah fire.
Sgt. Ronen Hayun, 19, was killed when his tank was hit by anti-tank missiles. Two other soldiers were lightly wounded. In a separate incident, an Israeli Druse soldier who was injured in August by friendly fire in Lebanon died Saturday. First Sgt. Mahdi Hatib died of the meningitis he contracted after he was shot. More than 40 Israelis have died in southern Lebanon since the beginning of the year.
