Israeli violinist Pinchas Zukerman was named music director of the Ottawa-based National Arts Centre Orchestra. In November the orchestra is planning a week- long celebration of Israel’s 50th anniversary, during which it intends to perform a gala concert to raise funds for a NACO tour of the Middle East in 2000. The orchestra is also planning a program that would bring young Israelis, Palestinians and Canadians together to study and play music.
