U.S. Holocaust survivors could begin receiving payments from a Swiss fund later this summer, according to the World Jewish Congress. The WJC said that beginning Aug. 17, applications will be available to all needy U.S. survivors to receive a portion of the $32 million set aside for them from the $170 Swiss Holocaust Memorial Fund created last year. With an estimated 120,000 survivors in the United States, payments could be as low as $500 if only half of the survivor population applied, according to a WJC official.
