The West Bank town of Hebron won one of seven 1998 Aga Khan architecture awards for the restoration of its Old Town. The prizes, which total $500,000, were established in 1977 by Prince Karim Aga Khan to recognize architecture that respects Islamic traditions while adapting to modern industrial needs. Other winners included projects in India, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Malaysia.
