President Clinton urged Israel and the Palestinian Authority to “break the logjam and finally take the next essential steps for peace in the Middle East.” Clinton made his remarks before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat traveled to a retreat in Maryland aimed at ending the 19-month stalemate in the peace process.
