President Clinton canceled a critical Democratic fund-raising trip to California to bring Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat together for more talks at the Middle East peace summit outside Washington. Senior U.S. officials said Clinton, who has invested considerable prestige and more than 40 hours at the summit, will not accept failure. Jordan’s King Hussein joined the talks to help press the sides toward agreement.
