Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned Sunday of severe consequences should Palestinian Authority leader Yasser Arafat unilaterally declare an independent Palestinian state after May 4, the end of the interim period spelled out in the Oslo accords. Netanyahu’s remarks came after Arafat said last Friday that the Palestinian people are ready to fight to protect their legitimate right to declare a state.
