An American credited with helping relocate tens of thousands of Ethiopians to Israel died March 31 at the age of 90. Graenum Berger, who founded the American Association for Ethiopian Jews more than 25 years ago, publicly lobbied the Jewish state to accept Ethiopian Jews. As a result of his efforts, 50,000 Ethiopian Jews had arrived in Israel by 1993.
