Israel appeared poised Sunday to shut down three Palestinian offices at Orient House in eastern Jerusalem after weekend talks aimed at reaching a compromise made no apparent headway. An Israeli ministerial committee on Sunday gave Public Security Minister Avigdor Kahalani a “few more hours” to try to resolve the matter in talks with Palestinian representatives. Israel’s Cabinet earlier this month directed Kahalani to issue closure orders on the three offices, which Israel alleges are conducting activities on behalf of the Palestinian Authority in violation of the Oslo accords.
