Russia’s prime minister discussed his support for Jewish causes in a meeting with a newly formed Jewish umbrella group. Vladimir Putin told leaders of the Lubavitch-dominated Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia that he acted personally to help rebuild Jewish life in St. Petersburg in the early 1990s, when he was head of the KGB branch there.
