Ernest Barbarash, a former JTA staffer and longtime Zionist advocate whose career spanned most of the 20th century, died recently in New York at the age of 99. Barbarash began his career in journalism with the JTA in London, and was assigned to the New York office in 1925. He later worked for the Zionist Organization of America, where he was instrumental in developing contacts between the U.S. government and Jewish leaders in Palestine as the State of Israel was being created.
