Rep. Henry Hyde (R-Ill.) brought some levity into an otherwise serious foreign policy grilling of U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell on Capitol Hill on Wednesday. Hyde told Powell that when he spoke with Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres on Tuesday, Peres said that “as a good Jewish boy, he never thought he’d go to bed at night praying for the health of the president of Pakistan.” Powell laughed and said Peres had told him the same thing.
