Six U.S. universities will launch studies in cultural Judaism. The schools, including Temple University in Philadelphia; the State University of New York at Albany; the University of California at Davis; the University of Denver; the University of Miami; and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst will offer new courses on Jewish culture beginning September. The Posen Foundation, which funds the New York-based Center for Cultural Judaism, a clearinghouse for secular humanistic Judaism, is funding the courses with grants of $50,000 per university. The grants may be renewed for two years, pending reviews.
