Rome’s Jewish community marked the centennial of its Great Synagogue. As part of last week’s ceremonies, officials presented a commemorative scroll to Brown University historian David Kertzer in honor of his father, who 60 years ago led the first services in Rome’s Great Synagogue after the city’s liberation from the Nazis.
