An Israeli Arab lawmaker drew fire for criticizing the politics of late folk singer Naomi Shemer. “If the words to Naomi’s songs and the way they are celebrated tell us anything, it is that the wall was built in the hearts and minds of the Israeli people long before it was built on the ground,” Azmi Beshara, a Christian Arab who heads the Knesset faction Balad, wrote in the latest edition of Al-Ahram, an English-language Egyptian weekly.
