Rabbi Adam Mintz, whose contract as spiritual leader of Lincoln Square Synagogue was not renewed following a power struggle with the leadership of the 600-member Orthodox congregation, has formed a new congregation with a group of his supporters that meets for Sabbath services at the Dorot Building at 171 W. 85th St.
Organizers of the congregation, Kehillat Reyim Ahuvim (Congregation of Loving Friends), said they have been attracting about 40 to 50 adults each week who opted to leave Lincoln Square Synagogue with Rabbi Mintz, who since May 6 has been president of the New York Board of Rabbis. Because of a non-compete clause in his contract at Lincoln Square Synagogue, Rabbi Mintz serves as an unpaid adviser/rabbi for the new congregation.
