An Israeli Cabinet minister called for costly security measures around former Prime Minister Ehud Barak to be curbed. Interior Minister Avraham Poraz said Wednesday he would table legislation limiting state-funded security to former premiers to only two years, after which they would have to pay the cost themselves. Poraz’s proposal followed a Knesset Finance Committee decision Tuesday to boost spending on Barak’s bodyguards from $310,000 to $420,000 a year. Several lawmakers said the former prime minister, who has lucrative deals abroad, should not be sponsored by the state.
