President Bush offered $50 million in direct financial assistance to the Palestinian Authority. Bush’s offer, made in a White House meeting Thursday with P.A. President Mahmoud Abbas, defies congressional directions not to send the $148 million recently appropriated in aid for the Palestinians through the Palestinian Authority because of its past corruption and ties to terrorists.
