Ehud Olmert was asked to create Israel’s next government. The interim prime minister, whose centrist Kadima Party won last week’s general elections, was formally tapped Thursday by President Moshe Katsav. The endorsement cleared the way for Olmert to negotiate with other parties on a governing coalition.
