A leading Arab Knesset member said Israeli settlers who choose to remain in their homes in a future Palestinian state could be granted Palestinian citizenship. Ibrahim Sarsur, chairman of the Islamic Movement’s southern branch and a United Arab List parliamentarian, said May 11 that while no Jewish settlements could remain in the West Bank following a peace treaty, Jews who elect to remain in their houses there could become citizens of the Palestinian state, Ha’aretz reported. “Any future and final agreement with the Palestinians must be based on two principles,” Sarsur said during an interfaith meeting in Tel Aviv. “A withdrawal from the entire West Bank up to the ’67 lines. Under no circumstances will there be territorial swaps which guarantee Israel would maintain settlement blocs in the West Bank.”
