Composer Gyorgy Ligeti, whose music was used in “2001: A Space Odyssey,” died Monday at age 83 in Vienna. Ligeti was born to Hungarian Jewish parents in what is now Romania. His music studies were interrupted in 1943, when he was sent into forced labor until the end of World War II. He survived, though his father and brother were killed in the Holocaust.
