Israel’s Cabinet approved the appointment of Sallai Meridor as ambassador to the United States. “The appointment will contribute significantly to Israel’s ties with the United States and to the Jewish community in the United States, as part of Israel’s efforts to strengthen its relations with this important nation,” Prime Minister Ehud Olmert told his Cabinet on Sunday before Meridor was confirmed as successor to the current ambassador, Daniel Ayalon.
