The Israeli military is investigating how a Bedouin girl was injured from gunfire
near one of its training bases.
The 12-year-old shepherd was hospitalized
in critical condition Wednesday after being hit by a bullet or shrapnel near
Zeelim, a major army base in southern Israel. Military police sources said
Thursday that she is believed to have been the victim of stray fire from one of
Zeelim’s gun ranges, and that an investigation is under way to determine whether
she entered an off-limits area or whether safety precautions at the base have to
be stepped up.
