The Palestinian Authority’s Education Ministry banned a book of Palestinian folk tales because of mild sexual innuendo. The Associated Press reported Monday that the ministry, led by Hamas, ordered the anthology pulled from school libraries.Education Minister Nasser Shaer told the AP that
the book is “full of clear sexual expressions.” A senior ministry official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the 1,500 confiscated copies had been destroyed. Palestinian intellectuals and lawmakers outside the terrorist group criticized the imposition of extreme Islamic standards on the schools. The decision to pull the book was “outrageous,” independent lawmaker Hanan Ashrawi said. “If this is what is to come, it is extremely alarming,” she added.
