A federal judge allowed a fundraiser for Hamas convicted of
lying under oath in a civil suit to go to Disney World.
In December 2004, Muhammad Salah lost a civil suit brought by
the family of David Boim, who was killed in a 1996 terrorist attack in the West
Bank. Salah was cleared last month of criminal charges related to his
fundraising in the early 1990s, partly because he had raised the cash before
doing so was outlawed in the United States.
However, he was convicted of lying under oath in the civil case, and faces
sentencing on June 15.
On Thursday, Judge Amy St. Eve of the U.S. District
Court in Chicago allowed him to remove his ankle monitoring system for
a trip to Disney World, dismissing prosecution objections that he was a flight
risk.
