Peres hopes for peaceful Iran solution

Shimon Peres voiced hope for a peaceful solution to the
Western standoff with Iran over its nuclear program. “I wouldn’t like to
darken the future with belligerent declarations,” the vice premier told
reporters Tuesday during a visit to Japan, where he was asked if Israel
could resort to pre-emptive military strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites. “I do
hope that the problem can be solved economically, politically and
psychologically.”

The U.N. Security Council is
expected by week’s end to have drafted a new set of sanctions against Iran,
which flouted a resolution calling for curbs on its sensitive nuclear
projects.
