Israeli police confirmed an investigation is under way against Arab
lawmaker Azmi Bishara. Police announced Sunday that international
crimes investigators were probing unspecified allegations. Further details could not be published because of a court order.
Bishara’s anti-Zionist party, Balad, said he was out of the country on a
routine trip and accused Israeli authorities of waging a “witch hunt”
against him. Bishara has long been a focus of controversy in Israel given
his solidarity trips to Lebanon and Syria, as well as public calls in favor of
Palestinian terrorism.
