Canada’s Kanee dies at 97

Sol Kanee, a prominent figure in the Canadian Jewish community, died at his home in Winnipeg.

Sol Kanee, a prominent figure in the Canadian Jewish community, died at his home in Winnipeg. He died April 21 at the age of 97. Kanee, an attorney, was president of the Canadian Jewish Congress
from 1971 to 1974, receiving its Nahum Goldmann Medal in 1998. He also held
executive leadership positions with the World Jewish Congress, which he
chaired. Kanee was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1977 and
awarded the Order of Manitoba in 2000 for service to the Winnipeg and
Canadian Jewish communities.He served in the Canadian Army in World War II, reaching the rank of major. Kanee was a board member of the Bank of Canada for 17 years and a past chairman of the Federal Business Development Bank.
