Conservative rabbis passed a resolution calling for the deployment of
U.N. peacekeeping forces in Darfur.
The measure was one of eight resolutions the Rabbinical Assembly adopted Monday at its annual convention. They included calls for the recognition of
non-Orthodox conversions in Israel and the release of captive Israeli soldiers ,
and support for an initiative to integrate ethical treatment of workers into
kosher certification.
The resolutions, considered the less controversial among 14 to be considered at this
week’s convention in Cambridge, Mass., were passed with only minor modifications to the proposed
texts. On Wednesday the rabbis will consider measures on the war in Iraq, reproductive freedom, immigration, and the status of gays and lesbians in
the movement.
