A New Jersey congressman called for world governments to expand Holocaust education and renew commitments to eradicating anti-Semitism. “Each of us knows we can and must do better,” U.S. Rep. Chris Smith, a Republican, said at a two-day conference in Bucharest on combating discrimination under the auspices of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in
Europe. “For our part,
let me assure you that the members of the U.S. delegation will return
home with fresh enthusiasm, commitment and resolve to eradicate the
scourge of hate.”Smith went to say: “Anti-Semitism is a particularly insidious form of hate that has had horrific consequences, including genocide.” He called for a follow-up meeting in 2009.
