Israel Singer will not seek re-election as the president of the Claims Conference. Singer advised Julius Berman, the conference chairman, that he does not plan to seek re-election at the board of directors meeting in July, according to a conference news release. Singer has been under a cloud since his dismissal from the World Jewish Congress in March amid allegations of financial impropriety. Several of the conference s 22 member organizations subsequently announced they could not support having Singer stay on as president. According to the statement, a special committee will be established to identify potential successors. The committee then will make a recommendation to the board of directors.
