The president of the Baltimore Hebrew University stepped down. Rela Mintz Geffen, a noted sociologist, served in the post for seven years. Geffen’s action, announced this week by the school’s board of trustees, came after the board carried out a $45,000 study that examined her leadership, the school’s ability to fund-raise and its image, according to the Baltimore Jewish Times. Barry Gittlen, who has taught at the university for 35 years, will become interim president. The Associated: Jewish Community Federation of Baltimore has announced it will cut its $1 million allocation to the school in half over the next five years. The school, founded in 1919, also will also have to leave its facility by 2010.
