Hamas said it would seize control of crossings into the Gaza Strip. The terrorist group, which controls the Palestinian Authority Cabinet, assumed control of Gaza Thursday night after ousting forces loyal to P.A. President Mahmoud Abbas’ relatively moderate Fatah Party in a civil war. On Friday, its spokesmen were quoted by Associated Press as saying that Hamas troops would now control crossings into Israel and Egypt. Israel will likely resists such a move because Hamas has used attempted breaches of the crossings in the past to launch terrorist attacks and smuggle arms.
