A 53-year-old businessman was elected president of the Sao Paulo Jewish Community. Boris Ber, a business administrator for an insurance firm, was elected June 13 to assume the helm of a wealthy and influential 60,000-strong Brazilian community for the next 30 months. Ber, a longtime activist, has promised major reforms in the federation, which brings together some 50 affiliated institutions.
