Peace Now says Israel should remove most West Bank checkpoints because they offer no protection.Of 93 manned military checkpoints in the West Bank, 58 control roads that run between Palestinian Authority-controlled towns and therefore serve no purpose in keeping terrorists away from Israelis, Peace Now said in a report released Wednesday. The group said the government should remove them to spare Palestinians needless scrutiny and hold-ups.Israel has more than 450 unmanned roadblocks that further stoke Palestinian anger, Peace Now said. The Israel Defense Forces, which maintains the checkpoints protect both Israel and Israelis in West Bank settlements, had no immediate comment.
