More than 50 German firms are under investigation for exporting parts to a nuclear power station in Iran.
Deutsche Welle, an online German news service, quoted German prosecutors as saying Thursday that the investigation launched in 2004 has recently expanded.
Christoph Lange, a spokesman, said prosecutors believe that only 12 of the 50 firms were aware of the scheme top smuggle the parts to Iran’s Bushehr reactor though a Russian front company.
U.N. nuclear watchdogs believe Iran is working to build a nuclear bomb.
