A 250-year-old Torah scroll from Krakow was brought to Israel by a new immigrant from New York.
Kevin Schreiber, one of the 200 immigrants on the aliyah flight organized by Nefesh B’Nefesh, brought the Torah with him on Tuesday.
Schreiber, a pediatrician from New York who made aliyah with his wife and three children, said the scroll was hidden during World War II in an ancient synagogue. The scroll was found in the synagogue’s library by a relative of Schreiber who visited Krakow in 1998 and brought it to the United States.
Nefesh B’nefesh estimates that more than 3,200 olim from North America will arrive in Israel this year.
