Most Germans would like to see the country’s notorious far-right party banned.

According to a recent survey by the polling firm Emnid, 66 percent of Germans want the government to try to ban the National Democratic Party of Germany. Of the 1,000 people questioned, 23 percent did not favor renewed attempts at banning the party. The poll was conducted for the broadcasting company N24.

In addition, the poll found that 77 percent believe that right-wing radicalism is a problem in both the former East and West Germany. Nineteen percent believe the problem is more prominent in the east.

German courts quit an attempt to ban the party several years ago after it was learned that some damning testimony came from informants who may have secretly instigated some of the party’s illegal activities.
