A Boca Raton philanthropist gave $1 million to a Florida Jewish federation.

In honor of the gift by Dorothy Seaman, the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County will name its women’s division the Dorothy Seaman Department of Women’s Philanthropy. The division accounts for nearly half of the federation’s annual $20 million campaign. It has garnered 207 Lion of Judah endowments — gifts of $100,000 or more — the most of any federation in the country, according to the federation. “I’m dedicated to federation’s mission of furthering the welfare of Jews,” said Seaman, who served as the chair of the women’s division from 2003 to 2005. “I want to make sure that the children, who are our future, grow up to be caring, involved and dedicated to Jewish causes.”
