Assad talking in Turkey

Bashar Assad is in Turkey for talks on regional issues, including Israel. The Syrian president arrived Tuesday.

Assad has said that Turkey, which has close ties with Israel, is trying to mediate between Syria and the Jewish state.

Assad’s visit comes more than a month after an Israeli raid on an alleged nuclear research facility in northeastern Syria near the Turkish border. Israeli warplanes used Turkish airspace without permission and dropped empty fuel tanks in Turkey on the way to the Sept. 6 attack.

Turkey’s foreign minister said his country’s ties with Israel will suffer if the U.S. Congress passes a resolution calling the World War I massacre of Armenians a genocide
