The Archbishop of Canterbury, an outspoken critic of Israel’s security policy, will meet Israel’s chief rabbis.

The head of the Anglican church, Dr. Rowan Williams, is not scheduled to meet with any politicians on his visit to Israel next week.

Rabbi David Rosen, chairman of the International Jewish Committee and one of the organizers of Williams’ visit, said the meetings with Israel’s chief rabbis had been scheduled to show the archbishop’s commitment to Israel’s existence and good relations between Jews and Anglicans.

Last year during a visit to Bethlehem, Williams said the separation barrier represented “all that was wrong with the human heart.”
