An exhibition that focuses on the persecution of Czechoslovak Jews under communism opened at the European Parliament in Brussels.
While much in Europe is known about the Holocaust, many people living in Western Europe have not studied the persecution of Jews by communist regimes.
The exhibition, for instance, addresses “Operation Spider,” a communist secret police attempt to assemble a registry of all Jews living in the country. The communist regime tried to scare Jews into informing on their neighbors and other Jews in a systematic anti-Zionist and sometimes anti-Semitic campaign.
The exhibition, which also provides details on Czechoslovak Jewish culture and information on the Holocaust, opened Wednesday and runs for two weeks.
